making coffee with yumi

She loves the manual coffee mill. It turns out that manually grinding beans with this awesome contraption is not at all so hard. It takes time, but a four year old can do it, as you can see, and she'll gladly volunteer to do it.

She also loves the Chemex. Loves to watch me pour the water on the coffee grounds, and see the coffee drip from the filter.

Funny how the kids take interest in these little rituals. Come to think of it, as a child, I was quite taken with my dad's little ritual of scooping Taster's Choice, Coffeemate and sugar into a cup of steaming hot water, setting down that cup on a saucer on a table while he proceeded to type or paint or build. That coffee smelled so good. And when he wasn't looking, I would always steal sips from it. My siblings stole sips too. And that was what got us started on this serious coffee love. (Though we won't drink instant coffee now if we had a choice. Then again, who would drink instant coffee if they had a choice? Who would drink Starbucks if they had a choice? Haha, so I'm a snob.) I won't be surprised if my kids grew up loving coffee too. Actually I wonder if they haven't already started taking sips of coffee behind my back.

All the coffee-making this morning made Yumi want to have her own cup... of hot chocolate.
